Reno-Market

The installation of a new storm sewer trunk line ranging in size from 24-48” in diameter, new and additional catch basins, and a new outfall at a cost of $800,000.
The old storm infrastructure in the area consisted of curb and gutter, with limited catch basins on Reno Ave and no catch basins on Market St. The old system was undersized which lead to frequent street and yard flooding. The new storm sewer infrastructure will reduce flows being conveyed down Reno Avenue that has caused chronic flooding at Reno and Silver intersection. The new storm system on Market St will eliminate street flooding as previously there was no storm system on Market. New catch basins on Spring Avenue along with a grate drain across Spring Avenue at the intersection of Spring Street will improve collection of storm water and reduce flooding at this intersection.

Grantline Culvert

Historically this is an area where heavy downpours cause Grantline Road to be overtopped and closed for periods of time. The installation of a 300’x28’x7’ free span culvert replaced 4 existing 66” corrugated metal culverts that were structurally failing; over 60 years old and undersized. Construction started in January with Grantline Road closed for 2 weeks in February and finally mid- March through June 13th. This new culvert with larger capacity and solid structuring at a cost of $1.3ml is a project which will serve the citizens of New Albany for many years to come.

Winter Maintenance

As citizens of New Albany we all know how important the proper maintenance and cleaning of ditches can be to the storm system. Currently, the Storm Department is starting its winter maintenance program to begin preventive maintenance to these ditch lines within the city’s right of way. This winter we will begin dredging and cleaning ditch lines throughout the City of New Albany for any excessive debris build up as well as trash and debris that have constricted the capacity of the ditch line. We encourage all residents and commercial entities to call our office and report any ditches they may feel need to be maintained. This maintenance also include local creeks and streams. We will be working on cleaning the flow lines as well as any debris and or limbs blocking the flow lines of our creeks.

Drainage improvements

The Storm Water department is pleased to present a new era of in-house improvements. While the importance of outsourcing large scale projects such as the six million dollar bond is still needed we are working towards limiting the unnecessary outsourcing of projects that we feel is within our departments ability to perform. To date, the department has made in-house improvements to numerous points in the system ranging from point repairs to installing new systems. These projects help our department cut cost by only having to accrue fees associated with the material. By cutting unnecessary cost we are not only able to perform more improvements to the system we are  able to keep from raising any rates associated with Storm Water funding. We would like to take an opportunity to update you of some of the larger scale projects we have performed in-house:

We have made several minor to large scale point repairs to the system as well as to the storm structures throughout New Albany. We would like to welcome you to check in with us on upcoming in-house projects.
